Another women’s day in another year,
Wishes will pour in, people will wish away.
But no wishes really make sense,
No change is here to stay.
Women in offices are payed less than their male counterparts,
Despite working harder and for longer hours.
They are equally intelligent, capable and wise
Still women suffer rape and abuse,
Still women are burnt or harassed.
It is all over the news.
The daughters are married away,
In their years of study and play.
These days most marriages don’t last long,
And yet girls are not taught to be independent and strong,
When a woman earns, they expect her to take care of the home and hearth,
They want a homely, earning girl
Who can earn, cook, clean, satisfy the man and give birth.
All or nothing they say..
Else you may go back to your parent’s place today.
And on Facebook, they will happily wish you a happy women’s day.
